A. - On Sunday, January 8, 1961, in hospital, Duncan Angus Carmichael M.D.CM., L.R.C.P., M.R.C.S., of 851 Dunlevie Avenue, age 76 years, beloved husband of Laura Elliot and father of Jean. Resting at Hulse and Playfair, West Ottawa Chapel, 1098 Byron, between Woodroffe and Compton. Service Tuesday 2 p.m. Interment Pinecrest Cemetery. Friends desiring to send a memorial tribute may send donations to the Royal Ottawa Sanatorium.

      Funeral Today For TB Aide

      OTTAWA (CP) - Dr. D. A Carmichael, medical superintendent of the big Royal Ottawa Sanatorium until his retirement five years ago, died in hospital Sunday at the age of 76.

      A leader in the anti-tuberculosis movement and a past president of the Canadian Tuberculosis Association, Dr. Carmichael saw the institution grow from 70 beds in 1926 to 315 beds when he retired in 1955.

      Funeral services for the native of Manilla, near Lindsay are to be held here today

      CARMICHAEL, DUNCAN ANGUS
      was born at Manilla, Ont. on September 1, 1884. He was educated at Markham, and graduated from Queen's University in 1909. He practised in Oshawa for a few years before taking postgraduate work in England.

      He obtained the degrees of Member of the Royal College of Surgeons, Englend, and Licentiate of the Royal College of Physicians, London, in 1914.

      He contracted tuberculosis in 1914, and the rest of his career was devoted to the treatment of that disease.

      He was on the staff of Freeport Sanatorium when the Military Hospitals Commission used it, during 1917 and possibly part of 1918. He was said to be at a sanitorium in New Brunswick from 1918 to 1923.

      He was Medical Superintendent of the Royal Ottawa Sanatorium for thirty years, retiring in 1956. He died on January 8, 1961.

      Information regarding his stay here is lacking; his name is not mentioned in Dr. H. N. Coutts history of Freeport. Sanatorium.
