Notes |
- Called to his Home
Death has been busy among the old residents of the district during the past few weeks. Mr. Frederick Stricker, an old and esteemed resident of the 8th of Maryborough, passed peacefully away at the home of his eldest daughter, Mrs. Deckert, of Linwood, on Saturday last, at the advanced aged of 91.
The death of Mr. Stricker removes one of the sturdy and most progressive farmers of the township of Maryborough. The deceased was born in New York State in the year 1833 and when one year of age came with his parents to Waterloo County where he grew to manhood. On June 30, 1854, he was united in marriage to Fredericka Strasser of Waterloo County and for several years afterward lived in that county where he cleared a bush farm. Thirty-seven years ago he came to Maryborough and purchased Lot 2, Conc. 8, near Moorefield, and remained there until one year ago when he went to Linwood to reside with his daughter. His wife predeceased him about eight years ago.
In religion Mr. Stricker was a Methodist and for many years a member and regular attendant of the Evangelical Church at Moorefield. He was always regarded as straight and upright in all his dealings with his fellow men and was held in the highest respect by all who knew him.
He leaves a family of seven to mourn his loss: Mrs. John Dechert, Linwood; Mrs. Robt. Foster, Crosshill; Mrs. Fred Braendle, Heidelberg; Mrs. A. Christie, Moorefield; Mrs. Joe Clark, Weyburn, Sask.; Daniel and Fred, Moorefield. Also, one brother, Henry, of Drayton, who will in January reach his 80th birthday, and 23 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
The funeral took place on Tuesday of this week from the home of his daughter at Linwood to Bethesda Cemetery, where the remains were laid in the family plot.
