  NORA SHANTZ 1915 - 2006 Passed away at Fairview Mennonite Home, in Cambridge, on Wednesday, August 16, 2006, at the age of 91 years. Predeceased by her husband E. Clare Shantz in 1995. Devoted mother of John and his wife Rosemary of Waterloo, and Elizabeth of Whitby. Lovingly remembered by her grandchildren Ryan and his wife Leslie of Burlington, and Craig of Waterloo. Survived by her brothers Donald Burkhardt and his wife Ferne, and Eugene Burkhart and his wife Eileen; and sister-in-law Peggy Burkhart, as well as many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents, Menno and Hattie Burkhart; brothers, Melvin Burkhardt, Vernon, Ornan, and Mahlon Burkhart. Nora was a remarkable woman. After being diagnosed with cancer in 1958, and undergoing treatment at Princess Margaret Hospital, she resumed her role as wife and mother taking care of her children and her husband, who became a paraplegic in 1960. She was a life-long member of the Erb Street Mennonite Church in Waterloo. For the past 17 years she resided at Fairview Mennonite Home in Cambridge. The family wishes to extend their thanks to the residents and staff of Fairview Mennonite Home, and the Personal Support Workers of ParaMed, without whose help she would have been unable to stay in her home. Friends are invited to share their memories of Nora with her family during visitation in the Auditorium of Fairview Mennonite Home, 515 Langs Drive, Cambridge, today (Thursday) from 2-4 p.m. and also at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service to celebrate Nora's life and faith will be held on Saturday, August 19, 2006 at Erb Street Mennonite Church, 131 Erb St. W., Waterloo at 2 p.m. Interment will follow in Erb Street Mennonite Church Cemetery.
