- STECKLY, Verna (Lichty) Our mother passed away peacefully in her apartment at Fairview Mennonite Home, Cambridge, in the presence of her family on June 1, 2013, in her 93rd year. Beloved wife of the late Lyal Steckly (2005). Lovingly remembered by her daughters, Barbara (Edward) Welfred, Shirley (Brian) Thompson, Carol (Glen) Thompson. Grandmother of Reginald, Bryan, Andrew (Masscellea), Sarah (Daniel), Benjamin, Amy (Robert). Great-grandmother to Henry, Lillian, and Brooklyn. Also remembered by her brother-in-law, Mearl (Helen 2001) Steckly, and nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents Irvin and Hannah (Martin) Lichty, brothers Gordon (Verda), Oscar (Valerie), Howard (Marcia) and her sister-in-law Eileen Steckly. Mom spent many enjoyable hours reading, quilting, sewing and doing a variety of needlework crafts. Verna's family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday, June 5, 2013 from 2: 00 p.m. - 4: 00 p.m. and 7: 00 p.m. - 9: 00 p.m. at Fairview Mennonite Home Auditorium (515 Langs Dr., Cambridge). A service to celebrate Verna's life will take place on Thursday, June 6, 2013 at Preston Mennonite Church (791 Concession Rd., Cambridge) at 2 p.m. Interment Hagey Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Fairview Mennonite Home or Preston Mennonite Church would be appreciated by the family (cards available at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick St., Kitchener, 519-749-8467). "Edgar and Irene Snider Musselman had lived on Fountain Street when their children were born, but moved to the Vineland area shortly after this. In 1942 they moved to Deacon Dan Shantz's former farm near the Pioneer Tower Road entrance. In 1947 their daughter Nelda married Bishop Ben Shantz's son Ralph, and earlier in 1947 their oldest daughter Helen married Merle Steckly, s/o Joseph and Sadie Steckly. Joe and Sadie's older son Lyal had married Verna Lichty in 1943 and they also attended the Hagey church. Verna's parents, Ervin and Hannah Martin Lichty had lived on Allendale Road and attended this church when Verna was a small child, but moved to Breslau when she was in grade three…"
