  DEATH OF MR. JOHN MARTIN It becomes our sad duty this week to chronicle the death of Mr. John Martin, deputy-reeve of Waterloo town, which took place last Thursday morning. Mr. Martin had been in failing health for the past year, and his death was not altogether unexpected. He emigrated to this country from Germany and became a resident of Waterloo, where he conducted a successful merchant tailoring business. He took an active interest in promoting the prosperity of the town, and served as municipal councillor for five or six years. In 1891 he was elected deputy-reeve and re-elected in 1892. The funeral on Sunday morning was attended by a very large number of the friends of the deceased who came to pay their last tribute of respect. He leaves a widow to mourn her loss, who has the sympathy of the community in her sad bereavement. - Chronicle. New Hamburg Independent 26 Feb 1892 pg 3
