    • BRYDEN, JAMES

In the death on Wednesday, July 10, 1929, at his home on lot 1 on the Gore Line of Puslinch, that township loses its oldest resident. He was in his 90th year. Day in and day out, for nearly four score years, James Bryden, Puslinch pioneer, had been a tiller of the soil. He had grown venerable on the land, the furrows of which he had turned first on the homestead, near New Dundee and then, on his farm in the south end of the township, near the Waterloo Line, for over seventy years. Although his eyes were dimmed with the years and his face seamed with the lines of time, his bearing, up to the last, was that of a man proud in the knowledge that he was one of those who had done his part in opening up of a new country. Born in Selkirkshire, Scotland, he came to Canada when three years of age. His father, James Bryden was a pioneer of the New Dundee area. Mr. Bryden moved to Puslinch, where he had resided for over fifty years. Until ten days, ago he had enjoyed good health and was up and around. Then, he suffered a broken leg and since had been confined to his bed. He is survived by three daughters and two sons, Mrs. A. Lake of Hespeler; Miss Mary Bryden of Mt. Clair, NJ; Miss Margaret at home; Thomas in Carman, MB; and John at home. Mr. Bryden was a member of Central Presbyterian Church in Galt. Funeral from his residence to Mount View Cemetery on Friday at 2, conducted by Rev. M. B. Davidson. Pallbearers were six nephews: J. B. Bryden, J. A. Bryden, R. W. Bryden, James Welsh, Walter Robson and John Wolfe.

-Information from the death certificate of Jane Brydon: Of lot 1, front of the Gore of Puslinch. Born in North Dumfries in 1842, daughter of James Welch and Katherine Linton. Died of jaundice at age 82 years. Informant - John Brydon of R. R. #2, Puslinch, her son.
