Final rites will be held in St. Mary's Catholic Church at 9 A.M. Friday for Joseph A. Zettel, who wold have reached his 93 birthday anniversary next Saturday, May 12. Father Leo Scheets, the parish priest, will conduct the rites, and interment will be in Park View Cemetery. The body which was at the Roger C. Gipe mortuary today, will be taken to the family home at 806 West Madison street this evening at 6:30 to rest untill the funeral hour. Mr. Zettel, who had been in business here for many years and was widely known, died at his home at 8:30 Tuesday morning. He had been in declining health since 1939 and his condition became serious several days ago. He was born on May 12 1852 at Formosa, Ontario, Canada, a son of Andrew and Magdalena (Holrad) Zettel. He and his family moved to Alexandria on Nov, 4 1912, and he engaged in the tinning and sheet metal business, with which he had been continuously connected as senior member of the firm of Zettel & Son's, West Church Street. In recent years however, he had not been actively engaged with the business. He had been married three times all of his wives having preceded him in death. He was a member of St. Mary's Church, the Holy Name Society, and the Society of St. Francis. Surviving members of the family include the following children, Mrs Chester Daemicke and Cyril J. Zettel of Alexandria, Mrs. George Boyle of Three Rivers, Quebec, Canada, Mrs George Smith of West Branch, Mich, Miss Sybilla Zettel of Chicago, Ill, Leo Zettel of Alexandria, and Miss Jean Zettel of Chicago, Ill. There is one surviving sister, Mrs Regina Schwartz of Formosa, Ontario, Canada, 17 Grandchildren and three Great-Grandchildren. Members of the Holy Name Society of St. Mary's Church will meet at the Zettel home Thursday evening at 7:30 to recite prayers.
