Notes |
- Michael came to Upper Canada with his father Paul, mother Catherine Bender, and two brothers John Phillipe Moser and Charles Phillipe (Carl) Moser in 1836 from Waibstadt, Baden, Germany. They arrived in New York on the ship "Sagamore" on September 17, 1836. Another brother Francis Anton Moser and his wife and 11 children came to America in 1854. Michael applied for his naturalization papers to become a Canadian citizen on March 7,1848. He was #532. He received his crown land at lot 9, con 6, Wellesley Township on June 27, 1857. In 1858 he purchased another 50 acre at lot 8, conc 5, for $2500. The school board paid him $25.00 and they built a stone school house on the corner of his property which became SS#1 (known as Moser School) in 1861. According to the 1861 census his farm was valued at $3,000. It comprised of 150 acres with the usual crops plus 1/2 acre of potatoes, 2 acre turnip. They had 100 lbs of maple sugar, 66 lbs of wool, 30 yds of cloth, 18 yds linen, 20 yds of flannel. Livestock consisted of 3 bulls, 9 steers, 6 cows, 4 horses (valued at $300) 1 colt, 26 sheep, 9 pigs. They had a lot of butter in store and some pork and beef in barrels. They also owned a pleasure carriage valued at $25.00. They lived in a 1 1/2 storey log house. Michael was born Catholic but changed his religion and is buried in the St. John's Lutheran Church cemetery on the Hessen Strasse Rd. not far from where they lived. Michael lived with his son Enoch until his death. The members of this family adopted the religion of their spouses. The "M" in the middle of the childrens names represents the mother's maiden name Musselman. In 1901 Michael is living with Enoch and his family in Wellesley Township, Waterloo County
