  • Notes
    • "Now, twenty-two years after the founding of the congregation, a new era began for the congregation. A man was called who served for fourteen years, from 1857 to 1871, and served it well. This man was Rev. J. A. Hengerer. Many improvements were made during his time. He brought about improvements on the cemetery. The third church, a white frame, was erected in 1862 .... While Rev. Hengerer was a pastor, a "Vorsaenger", or choir leader was elected. Rev. Hengerer also wrote a history of the church. He was very systematic and this history and orderly church records have provided much of the early history of the congregation. Rev. Hengerer also founded sister congregations, Second St. John's Lutheran Church, Wartburg, in 1858, and First Lutheran Church, Logan Township. He also conducted services in Stratford, although formal organization did not take place then until 1877. Both he and his wife are buried on (sic) the congregational cemetery. His successor was the Rev. A. Rehn (1871-1872). Both Rev. Hengerer and Rev. Rehn were members of the Canada Synod."

Taken from the 150th anniversary history book of 1st St. John's Lutheran Church of Seebach's Hill titled "To God Be the Glory 1835-1985"....
