Notes - PAUL LEWIS FRETZ February 25, 1931 - June 7, 2009 Passed away peacefully and comfortably after a courageous 14-year battle with cancer. Loving husband of Viola (nee Musselman) for 53 years. Guiding father of Bonnie (Bill), Barb (Chris) and Beverley (Patrick). Loving grandfather of Aaron and Simone. Brother to Lorne Fretz (Dorothy), Joyce Buschert (Cecil) and Lois Evans (Mel). Predeceased by his parents, A. Lewis and Barbara Fretz Stauffer. Paul was born in Markham, Ontario. At the age of 17, after completing studies and graduating with the first Rockway Mennonite Collegiate class, Paul began a 37-year teaching career near Bancroft, Ontario before returning to Waterloo County Board of Education until his retirement in 1985. After retiring from education, Paul and Viola continued to build the livestock, retail and manufacturing business they started in 1958, Bunnyview Rabbitry, until 2001 when he and Viola moved to Elmira. A generous man with a cheerful word for all he met, Paul had many and varied volunteer, business and personal interests, including a love of animals, organic gardening, fishing, beekeeping and antique vehicles. Those who knew Paul were often entertained by his sense of humour and stories of his diverse interests. A strong faith and belief in God guided him daily to the end of his life. A service celebrating Paul's life will be held at Bloomingdale Mennonite Church, Bloomingdale, Ontario on Sunday, June 14, 2009 at 4 p.m. Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, donations to Mennonite Central Committee or House of Friendship would be appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to the Dreisinger Funeral Home , Elmira.
