Notes |
- DEATH OF MR. E. L. Cutten
We learn with much regret that Mr. E. L. Cutten, formerly of Galt, passed away at Birds Hill, near Winnipeg, Manitoba, on Thursday last the 17th inst. His complaint was Bright's disease. Mr. Cutten was born at Onslow, Nova Scotia, in 1812 and was consequently in his 79th year. He came to Galt from Haysville in 1856 and kept the Queen's Arms hotel for about six years. He removed from here to Strathroy and then to the city of London, in both of which places he carried on business in his usual energetic and genial manner. His recent years have been passed on his farm at Birds Hill near Winnipeg, with an occasional visit to Banff Springs and other interesting points in the Northwest. Mr. Cutten's last visit to his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. John Cherry of Galt, was in 1887 and although old age was beginning to creep on, he seemed to preserve in a wonderful manner that sprightliness and geniality of disposition, which made him such a favorite with all who knew him. He was a man of more than average ability, a kind-hearted parent and generous and genial to everyone. When a resident of Galt, he was elected a member of the Town Council and was universally respected by the community. His relatives have the sympathy of all who knew Mr. Cutten, whose memory will long live green in the minds of numerous friends, in Galt and other parts of the Province.
