  Christman, Beatrice (Mrs. Clayton) - Peacefully, passed into the presence of the Lord, March 20, 2000, at Chateau Gardens, Elmira. Beatrice (Geiger) Christman was born May 30, 1909, the eldest daughter of Jacob and Alberta Geiger. Married to Clayton Christman in 1939, they happily shared 48 years together, until Clayton`s death in 1967. They enjoyed their home and large garden on Riverside Drive in Elmira and shared produce with friends and neighbours. Beatrice also worked at Reichards in Elmira when it was a combination grocery and dry goods store. As a couple, they loved the out-of-doors and were especially fond of fishing. St. James Lutheran Church was a home for Beatrice`s spiritual beliefs and she was involved with quilt piecing and quilting for the disadvantaged for many years. Although they never had children of their own, their love nourished many Godchildren and countless numbers of friends. In 1997, Beatrice moved to Chateau Gardens in Elmira, where the staff and residents became an important part of her circle of friends. She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Florence (Walter) Schneider and by nieces and nephews. Predeceased by one sister, Gertrude Geiger. The family will receive friends and relatives at the Dreisinger Funeral Home, Elmira on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. At noon on Thursday, transfer will be made to St. James Lutheran Church, Elmira for funeral service at 1: 30 p.m. with Rev. Wendell Grahlman officiating, followed by interment at Elmira Union Cemetery. The Record Newspaper 21 Mar 2000
