- DIES SUDDENLY IN HOLYOKE DRUG STORE
Archibald J. Lade Taken Ill on Springfield Trolly Car.
HOLYOKE, March 24-Taken ill on a trolly car early this evening, Archibald J. Lade, 64 years old, of 80 Hamilton Street, dropped dead a few minutes before 7 o'clock in Green's Drug Store in High Street, where he had been carried by Capt. Daniel J. McLean of the Mt. Tom Engine House, and William Wren. Medical Examiner W. J. Teahan was called and pronounced death due to heart failure.
Mr. Lade had boarded a car bound for Springfield at the corner of High and Cabot Streets and which was due at the City Hall at 6.50 o'clock. He left the car at the City Hall and appeared to be very ill. Capt. McLean noticed that the man appeared to be in a rather dazed condition as he stepped from the street to the sidewalk and offered to assist him. At the same time Mr. Wren came along and with Capt. McLean, took Mr. Lade into the drug store nearby. He was seated on a chair and Capt. McLean quickly realized that the man was very sick. It was thought that he had been suddenly taken with chills and the fireman placed him on the floor and began to work the limbs. Medical assistance was also summoned, Drs. Thomas E. Cavanaugh, H. E. Sackett and Medical Examiner Teahan responding within a few minutes. Mr. Lade was dead before they arrived. Undertaker Alger took charge of the body.
Archibald J. Lade was born in Holyoke in 1850 and shortly after went to Canada. He was there but a short time when he returned to Holyoke and took up work with the J. & Jolly Machine Company, where he had been employed ever since. He leaves besides his widow, Barbara, two sons. Archibald of this city, and Robert of Atlanta, Ga: one daughter, Mrs. Nicholl of Great Barrington, and one brother. Robert of Holyoke. The funeral will be held Thursday afternoon at 4 o'clock from Alger's undertaking rooms and will be private. The burial will be in the Forestdale Cemetery.
