Notes |
- The body was shipped to Blyth, Ontario and was handled by S. G. Simpson of Neepawa.
The remains of Mrs. Joseph Habkirk, who died as the home of her daughter, Mrs. Habkirk at Neepawa, Man., on Friday last, arrived here on Tuesday and were conveyed to St. Andrew's United church where services were held by Rev. Geo. Weir, followed by interment in the Union Cemetery. The deceased, who was 91 years old last October, was the widow of the late Joseph Habkirk, who passed away about thirty years ago. Some time afterwards, Mrs. Habkirk and her two daughters, Belle and Jeannie, moved to Brussels, afterwards moving west where they have since resided. Those who remember Mrs. Habkirk, speak of her as a lady of excellent personal qualities and one who held the esteem of a wide circle of friends. The pall bearers were; Messrs W. J. Sims, R. G. McGowan, R. J. Powell, F. Metcalf, F. D. Stacker and A. McGowan.
Obituary from the Blyth Standard, June 12, 1930
Early Tuesday morning of this week the spirit of Joseph Habkirk, a well known citizen of Blyth, was called away. He was only ill a few days, a throat troublewas the cause of death. Deceased was born in McKillop and was married to Margaret Johnston, who, with three sons and two daughters survive husband and father. Mr Habkirk was in his 64th year and had been a hearty man. He was secretary of the Morris Fall Show and well acquainted with many. Councillor Henderson of Brussels, is a nephew, and William Habkirk, of Manitoba, formerly of the 10th Con of Grey, is a brother. The funeral took place on Thursday afternoon in Blyth.
Obituary from The Brussel's Post, Thur. Feb 14, 1901.

Another good reason is that her sister, Jane had married Robert Habkirk. And from my research, there seems to be a lot of back and forth between Ayr and Seaforth. Jane's and Margaret's brother, Thomas married Margaret Lapslie whose mother was Elizabeth Scott, daughter of Robert Scott, the leader of the original Scott family in and around Seaforth. In addition, Robert Scott's daughter. Janet married William Habkirk who's sons married the two Johnstone girls.
