• Notes

  Death from Sun-stroke. On Saturday forenoon last, Thos. Dennis, a man well-known in this locality, was working in a potato patch belonging to Mr. John Brown, but left his work abnout 10 o'clock, complaining of the heat. Shortly afterwards he was found on the road with his head on the sidewalk in a state of partial insensibility. He was removed to his own house, where he died shortly after eleven o'clock. Coroner Philips emplanelled a jury, who on hearing the evidence returned a verdic of "Died from the effects of sun-stroke". Dumfries Reformer 5 Jun 1868
