- The sad intelligence of the death of Julius Beckner, son of Mrs. Beckner, this place, which took place at the B. and W. Hospital last Friday afternoon was heard with deep regret by his many friends and schoolmates there where he was well and favorably known. He was taken ill on Sunday, January 3rd, with inflammation but his condition was not considered serious until Thursday when he was removed to the hospital to undergo an operation which proved fatal. The deceased had only recently purchased the Waterloo Sun Laundry. He was aged 28 years and six months and was married about three years ago to Mary, daughter of Mr. Martin Schade, Waterloo. The funeral took place at Waterloo and was largely attended showing the high esteem in which the deceased was held by his fellow citizens. The family and relatives have out heartfelt sympathy.

FUNERAL OF THE LATE MR. BECKNER
The funeral of the late Julius J. Beckner was held yesterday afternoon From the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Schade, corner King and Princess Sts, and was one of the most solemn and impressive funeral processions that was ever held in Waterloo. Being a young man, and full of ambition he was respected by all, and a large concourse of friend followed his remains to their last resting place. The funeral arrangements were in charge of the firemen and the following six of his fellow members acted as pall bearers:-Assistant Chiel Bauman, Jos. Kropf, Henry Katges, T. Lackenbauer Geo. Karges, and Louis Kessig.
A short service was held at house the after which the solemn procession worked their way to St [mixed up words] E. Bockelmann preached very John's Lutheran Church where Rev. impressive sermon.
After the service at the church the procession was headed by the Waterloo Musicial Society's band, of which deceased was a valued and active member, ever since coming to town, and the cortage wended their way to Mt. Hope Cemetery to the strains of Chopin's funeral march. The Fire Brigade, of which deceased was also a member followed hearse bearing the remains, which came the carriages with the after the mourners, pall bearers and friends. As the procession passed down King St. both the town bell and church bell tolled in honor of the young man who was so suddenly and unexpectedly gathered in by the grim reaper of death.
The funeral was one of the largest ever held in town. hundreds of friends paying their last tribute of respect to one of the most upright and industriaus young men of this town.
