    • Charles Knipfel, 74, of Petersburg died Thursday at St. Mary's Hospital, Kitchener, following a lengthy illness.

      He was born in Petersburg, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. August Knipfel. Owner of a general store, he operated the post office for more than 25 years. He built up a waxed turnip shipping business, operated a coal dealership and was engaged in farming operations for about 15 years.

      He was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Petersburg, and on the church council for many years.

      His marriage to the former Mabel Hildebrand, who survives, took place in Kitchener in 1925.

      Surviving besides his wife are one son, Robert of Petersburg; two daughters, Mrs. Floyd (Delores) Neeb, RR 3, New Hamburg, and Mrs. James (Marilyn) Einwechter of New Dundee; one brother, William, of Petersburg; one sister, Mrs. Walter (Rose) Player, Kitchener, and eight grandchildren. Two brothers, Harry and Jack, predeceased him.

      The body was at the Schreiter-Sandrock Funeral Home, Kitchener, until noon Monday, when removal was made to Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Petersburg, for the funeral at 3:00 p.m. Rev. Ronald Reisdorf officiated, and interment was in the Petersburg Cemetery.
