- MURRAY, JOHN
Another well-known and highly respected resident of this district passed peacefully to his eternal rest on Wednesday, October 6th 1926, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. R. J. McFarlane. He had been gradually failing for some time. The eldest son of the late John Murray of Roxboroughshire, Scotland, he was born in Dumfries Township on Aug. 5, 1838. He was in his 89th year. He was married to Catherine Johnston, daughter of the late Crastor Johnston in 1866. She predeceased him seventeen years ago. After their marriage, they farmed in Dumfries for five years, before returning to Puslinch when they purchased the Johnston homestead, where they have lived since. Mr. Murray was a successful farmer, honest, upright and honourable in all his dealings and generous toward whatever was for the welfare of the community. He was a faithful member of the Presbyterian Church and an elder of Chalmers Church for over thirty years. Surviving are five daughters and four sons, Mrs. D. Ross of Winnipeg; Mrs. Alex Stewart of Clyde; Mrs. R. J. McFarlane of Puslinch; Mrs. John Rae of College Heights in Guelph; James of Vancouver; Findlay of Ladner, BC; George of Arkell; Robert on the homestead; one sister, Mrs. J. C. Smith of Belmont, MN; two brothers, James of Glenmorris; Robert of Galt; thirteen grandchildren and one great- grandchild. The funeral was held on Saturday at 2 from the residence of his son-in-law, R. J. McFarlane to Farnham Cemetery. The service was conducted by Rev. P. Mathieson of Duff's Church, assisted by Rev. John Little of Rockwood. Pallbearers: two sons, Robert and George; four sons-in-law, Alex Stewart, R. J. McFarlane, J. A. McPherson and John Rae.
