- Death of James Edgar, Sr. - A Pioneer of Huron County and a Former Resident of Ayr
James Edgar, sr., one of Huron's pioneers, died on April 27, at his late home, Criagalee farm, lot 10, con. 5, Howick. Mr. Edgar was born in the town of Crossroads, Ayrshire, Scotland, April 29th, 1834. He came to Ayr, Ontario, and was connected for some time with the late John Watson, agricultural implement manufacturer.
Fifty-five years ago he married Miss Agnes Black, who predeceased him four years ago. In 1869 he moved to the above farm, which has been his home ever since. He was always active in public affairs, was a Justice of the Peace, a director of the Howick Mutual Fire Insurance Company and held the office of president for twenty-three years. He was a Liberal in politics. The funeral was conducted by the Fordwick Lodge, A. F. & A. M., and was largely attended.
Six sons and one daughter survive: Rev. J. D., McLennon, Ontario; Thos. S. Man.; John G., Sask.; W. A., Edmonton; Hugh and Robt. At home; Mrs. Cochran, Man. Mr. John Black of Ayr and Mr. Robt. Black of Wroxeter are brothers-in-law; Mrs. C. K. Morton, Ayr, a niece.
