Notes |
- In 1859, John Johnstone built a stone Blacksmith shop where Wettlaufer's store is now and his younger brother, James P. Johnston, worked with him there, After John died in 1862 his executors rented the shop to William Hunter for the one year, 1863. In the year 1864 and for at least a part of 1865, Hunter's Landlord was James P. Johnston to whom use of the property had gone under John's will....Later Robert Forbes acquired the whole frontage from the Allendorf lot to Cooper Street. About 1859 he sold John Johnston a lot at the corner of Cooper Street with a frontage of 87 links on Queen and another lot adjoining it to the west. On the corner lot John Johnston built a house which was many years later replaced by the present office building and on the second lot he built a blacksmith shop which Louis Grill tore down when he built the present Wettlauffer Block.
