- A SUDDEN CALL
Death of Mr. Andrew Muirhead after only a Few Hours Illness
Death came with awful suddenness, to Andrew Muirhead of Galt, between four and five o'clock, Tueday morning. Mr. Muirhead was a jeweller and was at his shop as usual, yesterday. He remained there until until five o'clock yesterday afternoon and returned to work after supper. An hour or so later he was taken ill and went home, assisted by friends. He retired to rest, but before another day had dawned, he had been called home. The cause of his death, was locomotor ataxia. He had suffered from that malady for the past few years. He himself, thought he was improving in health, but his medical advisers at no time held out encouraging hope, for his recovery. The deceased was born in 1845. He learned watchmaking and when he had grown to manhood left Galt, where his boyhood was passed. He lived for some years in California, he married there and his widow now resides in that State. Three years ago he returned to town, bringing his two boys with him and made his home with his aged mother, Mrs. Thomas Blain, Market street. He was then in ill health and it was on this account that he left California. Personally the late Mr. Muirhead was generally liked and respected. Despite his bodily affliction he was invariably cheerful and the fortitude he displayed, was worthy of commendation. He leaves two sons, Irving and Ross, aged 11 and 13 respectIvely, his mother and a brother and sister. The latter are Mrs. Dryburgh, Galt and James. Nashville, Tenn. The late Simon Mulrhead, of Buffalo, the steamship engineecr, who lost his life some time ago, while in the charge of his duty, was also a brother. The deceased was a member of the Covenant Mutual Benefit Association, of Galeburg, Ill., in which he was insured for $2,500. He was also connectecl with the K.of P. of California.
