Notes |
- D. K. Weber.
The people of Wellesley can be congratulated that a new hand is at the helm in the operation of their old and well known flouring mills. He is making extensive improvements in the establishment. These mills were established by the Doerings about forty five years ago, but have changed hands frequently during that period. The present proprietor, Mr. D. K. Weber, who for eight years carried on a successful mercantile business in Hawksville, became the successor of Mr. Geo. Wettlaufer about five months ago. Mr. Weber was born near Elmira in 1865. He was brought up on the farm and had a thorough training in that calling, and being a practical business man he is well fitted to deal with that class of patrons who require the services of a good grist mill. Those who passed through this mill several months "go would scarcely recognize the interior now, so great has been the repairing and renovating during the past few weeks. Not only has improvement been going on inside, but the head race, which has for some time been quite an eyesore to the villagers, is being relieved of a large amount of mud and other disagreeable material. These mills are equipped with a roller process capacity of 60 barrels per day, and with ample stone facilities for chopping. It is also equipped with a fine elevator capacity for 30,000 bushels of grain. The building is 40x80 feet in dimensions, and is two and a half storeys in height. It has every arrangement for convenience in hand- ling grain and flour. It has a large water privilege and a 70-horse-power engine to furnish the motive power in case the water becomes low. An experienced miller is in charge, and the mills are now rapidly assuming their old time prosperity In connection with the mill is one of the best equipped cider mills in to county. Mr. Weber is a man of energy and enterprise, and he will leave no stone unturned to make the production of his mills highly satisfactory to the farmers and others who may favor him with their patronage. He will make special endeavors to turn out a superior grade of flour, and pay the highest market price for wheat from the sur- rounding farming community brought in.
