  Gilbert Lamont, father of Gilbert Lamont Jr., Elmira business man, passed away suddenly at his home in Hanover last Wednesday, December 24th. Mr. Lamont was in his 77th year. He was a well known and highly esteemed resident of Hanover for many years, being of a congenial disposition, and made many warm friends in the district. Mr. Lamont was an employee of the Canadian National Railway, and resided in Paisley and Walkerton before moving to Hanover 40 years ago. He was born in Saugeen Township, near Port Elgin, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Donald Lamont. He married Elizabeth Moore, of Riverside, Ontario in 1893, who survives him. Besides his wife, he is survived by Gilbert Jr., a barber in Elmira, and three grandchildren. Three grandchildren predeceased him. A private funeral service at his late residence was followed by a funeral service at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church on Saturday. Rev. Dr. W. J. Mark officiated at both services. Burial was made in the Hanover cemetery. Elmira Signet, Thursday, January 1, 1948
