Notes |
- Alfred Gordon Otto
Word of the sudden death of Alfred Gordon Otto was received by Elmira relatives late Tuesday evening, at his home in Winnipeg, several days after he was suddenly stricken while at work.
Well-known in this district, the late Mr. Otto was the son of Mrs. W. H. Otto of Elmira and the late Mr. Otto. He was in his 53rd year. Born at Sebringvillle. Mr. Otto came to Elmira with his parents in his early boyhood. He served as a clerk in his father's general store before leaving for the Canadian West in 1911 where he entered business at Wiseton, Sask.
Enlisting in the Canadian army in 1914, Mr. Otto served overseas, returning to Saskatoon in 1919 to enter employment with Western Grocers Limited. Following a visit to Elmira four years ago, Mr. Otto was transferred to Winnipeg on his return West, where he became chief supervisor for Western Grocers, which position he still held at the time of his death.
Besides his mother, he is survived by five brothers, Edgar of Chicago, Ill., George of Hamilton, Sidney of Waterloo, Ernie of Elmira and Robert of Bloomfield, Ont. Four sisters also survive. They are: Mrs. D. D. Ratz of Elmira, Mrs. E. Suehring of Vancouver, Mrs. W. O. Suehring of London and Mrs. C. J. Kline of Tavistock.
Following a service at Winnipeg this afternoon (Thursday), the body will be returned to Elmira for burial. The funeral will be held on Sunday afternoon at 2.30 o'clock, with service at Dreisinger's Funeral Chapel. Interment will be made in the Elmira cemetery. Rev. C. H. Cornwell will officiate.
