Notes |
- Rev. Herbert Graupner
Last week word was received here that Rev. Herbert Graupner was seriously ill of pneumonia following an attack of influenza. The following day it was reported that he died. Deceased was the eldest son of Rev. P. Graupner, formerly pastor of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, at Elmira. Deceased was born in the United States, but spent the greater portion of his childhood years in Elmira. He left his home here when fourteen years of age to attend the Concordia Seminary at Fort Wayne. After graduating there he finished his course at St. Louis and was ordained as Lutheran minister at Vibank, Sask., during the summer of 1917 where he worked successfully until he fell victim to the dreaded disease that has carried away so many young men of his age. Last July he was married to Miss Anna Young, of St. Louis, who survives to mourn her great loss. Besides his widow he leaves his parents, there brothers and four sisters who have the sympathy of a large circle of friends. Deceased was a young man of promise whose work in the Lord's vineyard had already borne fruit, although it seemed to have just begun. He had reached the age of 25 years at the time of his demise. His earthly remains were brought to Dashwood, Ont. where his parents now reside and where the funeral was held yesterday. His memory will long be cherished by playmates and friends in Elmira.
