- Pay Last Respects To Mrs. J.R. Ruppel
Funeral of Prominent Elmira Lady is held Saturday; Resided Here Half-Century
Tribute to the late Agnes J. Velle widow of John R. Ruppel was paid by many friends and relatives at the funeral which was held from the family residence, 31 Church St., Saturday afternoon, Nov. 20. Rev. Mr. Cole of Wesley United church of which the deceased lady was a faithful member, conducted the service. Her favorite hymn "Abide With Me" was sung very effectively by Mr. Arthur Laschinger.
The late Mrs. Ruppel came to Elmira as a bride 50 years ago and took up residence in the home formerly occupied by the late Caspar Ruppel, the present Ruppel home, (which by the way is the first brick residence in Elmira) and in which she spent her entire wedded life. She was a very kind and sweet disposition and was loved by all who came into contact with her.
Mr. Ruppel predeceased her 14 years ago.
The union was blessed with eight children, Edith and Harry predeceased her. The six surviving children are: Emma, Mrs. Cooley of Springfield, Mass, who was too ill to attend, George of Kitchener, Hattie, Mrs. G. Robinson, Kitchener, Russel, Clara and Anna at home. There are three grandchildren, Thornwell Ruppel of Kitchener, Russel and Jeanette Ruppel, Atlanta, Ga.
The out-of-town relatives who attended the funeral are Mrs. (Dr.) Coram, only surviving sister; Dr. Geo. and Mrs. Coram, Dr. James and Mrs. Coram, Toronto; Mr. John Cumberland; Mr. W. Cumberland; Mr. and Mrs. N. Nicols, Listowel; Mr. and Mrs. John Armstrong, Glenallen; Mr. John Maurer, Mr. Walter Maurer and son; Mr. and Mrs. C. Jefferson, Kitchener.
The pallbearers were: Henry Brunck, Arthur Laschinger, George Cobean, George Reuter, Elliot Moore and Edward Tyack.
There were many beautiful floral tributes which testified to the high esteem in which the late Mrs. Ruppel was held. The family have the sincere sympathy of a host of friends in their sad bereavement.
