    • Rural Carrier, John Gies Dies

      ST CLEMENTS, April 18. - The funeral of John Gies of Heidelberg, rural mail carrier in this district for 29 years who died yesterday, will be held Thursday morning at 9:30 with service at St. Clements R.C. Church at 10 o'clock. Dean William Becker will officiate. Burial will be in the R.C. Cemetery, The remains were removed from the Futher Funeral Home to Heidelberg at 5 p.m. today.

      Born July 1, 1864, to Mr. and Mrs. William Gies at St. Agatha, Mr. Gies took over the work of mail carrier when the system was instituted. He resigned the office three weeks ago. At the time he took over the mail route, he was farming on Ninth Concession of Wellesley Township. He sold the farm in 1919 to Leo Voisin and moved to Heidelberg.

      Mr. Gies attended St. Clements Church where | he was a member of the Holy Name Society.

      He is survived by his wife, the former Caroline Walter, a daughter of the Mr. and Mrs. Ferdinand Walter, whom he married Oct. 26, 1886, at St. Agatha; five sons, Robert of Sudbury, Pte. Walter Gies of Angler Camp, Alex and Leander of Waterloo, and, Albert, with the No: 10 Military Hospital unit overseas: three daughters, Mrs. Frank (Bella) Ball of Kitchener, Mrs. William (Mynetta) Peckham of Hamilton and Mrs.

      Harry (Lenora) Schill of Buffalo. There are 29 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Brothers surviving are William of Moose Jaw, Sask., and Conrad of Kitchener, and two sisters, Mrs. Ed Meyer of Canfield, Ont., and Mrs. Peter Reidel of Preston.
