________________
MR. JOHN B. LEIN HAS DEPARTED LIFE
WAS A SUCCESSFUL AND ESTEEMED CITIZEN
Elmira citizens were generally grieved to learn on Tuesday forenoon that Mr. John B. Lein had passed from life unto death at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Schmidt, of Kitchener.
He had been ailing in health for a period of two years and had during the last six months been ill. Being of a quiet disposition, he bore silently his bodily troubles. Several weeks ago these became aggravated and his physician was called on and later a specialist in consultation. An X-Ray photograph showed that he was afflicted with cancer of the stomach, liver and bowels.
On Thursday of last week he was conveyed to his daughter's home in order that he might the more conveniently receive special treatment in Kitchener, in the hope of prolonging his life. Being unable to retain nourishment, he weakened rapidly and passed away at 9 o'clock Tuesday morning. His remains were on Wednesday afternoon brought to Elmira.
Mr. Lein was born near Heidelberg on March 5, 1864. His father, the late John Lein, afterward purchased a farm East of Elmira, where the family was reared and attended the Elmira Public School. In 1883, John B. was apprenticed to a wagonmaker in Elmira, later he was employed for a time at the Elmira Foundry. In 1893 he began business for himself as a wagonmaker. In 1916, he obtained the agency for a motor car.
Mr. Lein was on May 19, 1889, wedded to Miss Margareth Klinck, daughter of Mr. Charles Klinck Sr. Their union was blessed with five children. Three children died in their infancy; Karl John, Frederick William and Esther. Two daughters survive: Mrs. G. W. Schmidt and Miss Lillian Lein of Kitchener. One brother, Mr. Philip Lein, of Elmira, and four sisters are still living. His sisters are: Mrs. Henry Zilliax, Mrs. David Hollinger, Mrs. Louis Doerfier all of Elmira and Mrs. Louis Hollinger, of St. Jacobs. His age was 57 years, 3 months and 17 days.
On Saturday next at 2 o'clock p.m., his funeral will be held from the family residence on Factory Street to St. Paul's Lutheran Church for services, which will be held in English and German, after which interment in the Elmira Union Cemetery will take place. Mr. Lein will be missed by a host of friends. He was of a naturally quiet disposition but a man of his word. His customers and fellow citizens admired him for his reliability and industry. A good and useful citizen has departed.
To Mrs. Lein and daughters, will be extended the sincere sympathy of the town and district in their irreparable loss of a kind and loving husband and father.
