"He was born in Schoenenberg, Rhein-Bayern , Germany, March 18, 1834. He was a son of Carl Lang, and at the age of 18, he came to Canada with Mr. Louis Boehmer. The trip was made by rail to Hamilton, where they secured a team and made the overland trip to Preston. They arrived there September 22, 1853, and their home with Mrs. Kress, a sister of Mr. Lang. Soon after he came to Berlin, securing employment with Mr. Henry Boehmer on a farm two miles from Berlin. While here, he learned the cooper trade, remaining three years. In company with his brother Peter, they secured a farm near Twin Bridges, where they remained three years..."
