Notes |
- Decker Dreadful Accident:
A son of Mr. Isaac Decker of Waterloo met his death on the 3rd instant under the following circumstances. He had been sent by his father to take charge of a horse to which a halter was attached for the purpose of allowing the animal to graze along the margin of a field without injuring the grain. The boy, unthinkingly, made the halter fast around his waist, and, a moment after, his hat blew off. Throwing up his hands to catch it, the motion startled the horse who started off at full speed, dragging the unfortunate child with him. The father was informed immediately by one of the family of the occurrence, and followed the horse, but the frightened animal could not be captured without much trouble. When secured, it was found the child was quite dead and horribly mutilated.
