  • Notes
    • After being in failing health for more than a year Mrs. Joseph Vance passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Philip Pauli, Stratford, with whom she had made her home for the past ten years. Mrs. Vance was born in Oefingen, Germany, in 1847, and at the age of three years came to this country with her parents and settled in Cayuga. At the age of 18 years she married John Heppler and after the marriage resided for a time in Wilmot Township and in South Easthope. Later they removed to New Hamburg, where Mr. Heppler died in 1903.

After her marriage to Joseph Vance in 1906 her home was in Tavistock and following the death of her husband she went to Stratford, where she resided until the time of her death. She was a member of Centennial Evangelical Church.

There survive three sons, Jacob Heppler of Stratford, William of Arthur and Charles of Waterloo: one daughter, Mrs. Philip Pauli, of Stratford, and a brother, Conrad Swance of Oklahoma.

The funeral was held Sunday af ternoon from the home of her daughter, Mrs. Philip Pauli, 262 Ontario Street, Stratford, to New Hamburg cemetery, where interment was made in the family plot The service at the residence was conducted by Rev. O. C. D. Klaehn of Montreal. The house was filled by friends and relatives of the late Mrs. Vance who was well known in the city and district. The pallbearers were H. Pauli, John Wettlaufer J. Schmidt, Alex. Abraham, S. La mont and C. Dannecker.
