  John Hagey, well known Brantford resident, died Monday at his home, 51 Palmerston Avenue, in his 89th year. He was born in Bruce County, the third son of the late Peter Hagey and Elizabeth Boehmer...Mr. Hagey, at an early age, became interested in the grocery business. Coming to Brantford in 1888, he took over Hall's Grocery at the foot of Terrace Hill Street. He later became connected with the firm of W. H. Gillard Wholesale Grocery firm of Hamilton for 35 years and afterward was with the Canada Starch Company until his retirement in 1936. He was a member of Brant Ave United Church for more than 50 years and until recently was a member of the official board of the church. He was a member of Lynden Lodge, IOOF, and was the last original member. In 1937, he received his 50 year jewel. An enthusiastic bowler, he was a charter member of the Dufferin Lawn Bowling Club.
