  • Notes
    • Johann Peter Kramp "He was born in Hutschenhausen, Germany. He and his family came over to New York from Germany, arriving on May 15, 1852, on the ship CASPIAN.They left from the port of Havre, France. He eventually settled in Shantz Station, Waterloo Township, where He died in 1869 of cancer.
Saying this, an old letter from a descendant of probably our line, Robert Kramp of Hutschenhausen, written in 1970 states that he believes Peter was actually born in a small hamlet called Sand, which is or was located three miles from his home. Because it so so close, I am enclosing both accepted places as his birthplace and leave it for others to debate.

After reading the information from Robert (above) and his family tree back for several generations, I am fairly confident that his Great-grandfather, Johann Nicholaus Kramp born in Sand in 1796 is a brother of our Peter Kramp born in 1791. There are so many coincidences in names of children being the same in both sets of trees and marriages into the Muller or Mueller family of the same area, that I believe this to be so, remembering that they lived in a very small town. Have been trying to find a mutual father for both Peter and Johann to confirm this.

Some data on their children as follows:********

Eva Elizabetha Kramp was born in 1815 in Germany. She was christened on September 19, 1815 in Spesbach, Germany.

Ludwig Kramp was born in 1817 in Germany.

Deborah Kramp (twin to Ludwig) was born in 1817 in Germany. She did not marry.

Johann Nicholas Kramp was born September 5, 1820. He was christened on September 10, 1820 in Spesbach, Bayern, Germany.

Elizabeth Kramp was born on March 13, 1823 in Germany and christened on March 16, 1823 in Spesbach, Germany.

Jacob Kramp was born December 3,1826 and christened on December 10, 1826 in Spesbach, Germany.

********Some of these dates vary slightly from the tombstones but are the recorded dates of baptism. Another thing to be aware of is that all or most of the children seemed to have been born in Hutschenhausen and were baptized there, for the most part, a day or so before being baptized in Spesbach, for some reason."
