    • Memorable Manitobans: Henry Bruce Gordon (1855-1931)
      Wholesale grocer.

      Born in Waterloo County, Ontario on 23 December 1855, son of John and Frances Gordon, he was educated at Ontario schools then came to Manitoba in 1882. He joined the firm of Thomson, Codville & Company in 1883, working as a buyer for a number of years. He was Second Vice-President when the joint stock company was formed and President from 1916.

      He was President of the Dominion Wholesale Grocers Guild from 1914 to 15, President of the Manitoba and Saskatchewan Grocers Association for twelve years, and President of the Winnipeg Board of Trade from 1911 to 1912. On 3 August 1887, he married Alma L. Douglass at Winnipeg. They had no children. He was a founding member of the St. Charles Country Club. Liberal. Anglican.

      He died at his Winnipeg home, 77 Wilmot Place, on 21 April 1931 and was buried in St. John's Cemetery.
