- Jacob Ziegler Early City Builder Dies At 81
A man who started his building career in the city of Edmonton in 1905, Jacob Ziegler, 81, of 7611 81st St., has died.
A native of Waterloo, Ont., who came west with his parents in 1893, Mr. Ziegler was raised on a farm in the Spruce Grove district. In 1905 he set up a building construction business in Edmonton where he remained until 1916 when he took over the management of a large farm
in the Strome district.
He returned to his building business in Edmonton in 1921 where he remained until his retirement.
He was predeceased by his wife Katherine, a resident of the Ellerslie district..
In his younger years, Mr. Ziegler was very active in church work, being one of the early elders of Redeemer Lutheran Church, 97th Street and 74th Avenue.
He is survived by a son, Roy Jacob, and one daughter, Mrs. Fred (Mable) Zurch, both of Edmonton; four grandchildren and one great grand-daughter. There are also two brothers, Noah and Fred in Edmonton. and three sisters, Mrs. Christine Findlay, at Kelowna, B.C., Mrs. Lena Everington, of Stony Plain, and Mrs. Clara Lakeman, of Edmonton.
Funeral services were held Thursday from Redeemer Lutheran Church with Rev. E. B. Fox officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Memorial Gardens.
