    • ALBERT TUERK. INVENTOR AND MANUFACTURER, CHICAGO, ILL.

Albert Tuerk of Chicago is a Berlin boy who has made name and place for himself as an inventor and manufacturer in Uncle Sam's domain. He is a son of the late Rev. F. W. Tuerk, and was born in Pittsburg, Pa., Oct. 14th, 1851. His parents removed to Berlin in 1857 and the subject of this sketch, spent fourteen years of his youth in Berlin. As a boy he was a favorite with his fellows. He early displayed signs of the inventive talent which have characterized his later year In 1871, he removed to Illinois and engaged in the manufacture of buttons, at Kankakee, Ill. In 1888, he was given the management of the Western Clock Mfg. Co., a concern which makes 3000 clocks a day and there demonstrated his ability to do things. In 1890, he formed a company in Chicago to manufacture the Tuerk self-winding electric clock, telephone apparatus, metal and hardware specialities. When started, the firm's name was Tuerk Bros. In 1903, it was incorporated as the Tuerk Manufacturing Co., of which he President and Treasurer and Mr. Paul Totzke, another Berlin boy, Secretary. Mr. Tuerk resides at Edgewater, Chicago and is a striking example of what Berlin boys have accomplished in the big field to the south of us.
