Notes |
- Harry Fromme, a man of the Yukon, laid down the tools of his several trades in Vancouver, B.C., Saturday November 20, 1993 at the age of 82, following a valiant battle against cancer. He was born January 8, 1911 in Elmira, Ontario. Harry's beloved sister, Gladys Bruce, passed away in Whitehorse earlier this year, he is also predeceased by his youngest daughter Patricia. He is survived by his wife Levenia; partner and brother-in-law Archie Bruce, children Gerry, Alan, Joan, and Wayne Fromme and Maxine Homer, 11 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
Harry was a highly respected figure in the Yukon where as a young man in 1933, he came to work as a trapper, prospector and miner. In the late 40's, Harry Fromme (president), Archie Bruce, Harry Johannes, and Dave Price, with a thousand dollars among them, created General Enterprises Ltd., a construction firm which they parlayed into a major Yulon presence over the years. After retirement from G.E., Harry remained active in prospecting and mining and in the mining market; he formed Yukon Revenue Mines Company, which he operated as President.
Harry Fromme's vision and contribution to development in the Yukon were recognized when he was inducted in 1989 to the Yukon Prospectors' Association Honour Roll. He is also a Lifetime Member of the Yukon Order of Pioneers, Lodge #2, and of Ellas Lodge #306, Whitehorse.
The funeral service for Harry Fromme was held in Vancouver on November 29th. A memorial service in Whitehorse is set for June 17, 1994, 2 p.m. at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church 312 Strickland Street
