      Millbank

      John Crookshanks, a former resident of this district died at Rossburn, Man., on Saturday, Dec. 2nd in his eighty-fifth year. He was the eldest son of the late James and Sarah Crookshanks of Wellesley Township, Waterloo Co. The early part of his life was spent in this district, later living in the vicinity of Listowel and Molesworth. In the summer of 1883 he left for Manitoba and lived for some time at Stonewall and Neepawa and later went to reside at Rossburn. In 1290 [should read 1899] he was married to Miss Hattie Williams of Stonewall. He had been in failing health for several years and on Tuesday, Nov. 28th he suffered a stroke and never regained consciousness. He leaves besides his widow, one daughter; Mrs. Peter Joiner, and one grandson also four brothers and two sisters, namely Samuel and William of Rossburn, Rev. J. J. Crookshanks of Winnipeg and Thomas of Stratford, Mrs. Hester Tanner of Millbank and Miss Eliza Crookshanks of Stratford. The funeral was held Dec. 3rd at his late residence and was conducted by the United Church minister. The Orange Order of which he had been a member for many years conducted a service at the house.
