  Henry L. Erb, "was born January 1st, 1836. He was married to Sarah Simmonds. They reside near Bear Lake, Michigan, where he is engaged in farming. Berlin [Kitchener, Ont.]: [s.n.]. __________________________ ''The Bear Lake Methodist Circuit was formed in 1866 with services being held in a small log church located at the east end of the lake. There were 33 members at the beginning and Rev. Pickard was in charge. He made his home with the Henry Erb family who lived on a farm about a half mile east of the lake. The circuit was under the supervision of Presiding Elder B. F. Doughty. In 1867 Rev. Wm. Ball became the preacher." Cooly, Laila - History of the Bear Lake Methodist Church ______________________ Henry ERB is one of the pioneers of Bear Lake Township. He is a native of Canada, and during the latter part of his residence there, owned a sawmill and farm. He was married June 24, 1857, to Miss Sarah A. SEAMAN, at Otterville, Oxford Co., Canada. In October, 1865, they started, with two teams, for a new home in Bear Lake. He had two horses and a lumber wagon loaded with household goods, and she drove one horse and cared for her four children. The journey was long and attended with many hardships, but was accomplished without serious accident. They located a homestead of one hundred and sixty acres, one mile east of Bear Lake, and built a log house. He cleared his land, and in course of time added more to it, until now he had a magnificent farm of five hundred and eighty acres, upon which are a fruit orchard of one thousand trees, and excellent buildings. In 1879 they left the farm and moved into the village, where they now reside. During the past year he has completed a tasty residence for their home. They have six children, one of whom is the wife of Mr. David H. HOPKINS. Mr. ERB is one of the solid men of the county, and a most excellent citizen.
