Built in 1865 (as per datestone) and called the Canadian Block. Original Canadian Block constructed in 1861 by Jacob Y. Shantz, Berlin colonizer and entrepreneur. Replaced the wooden, 1861 building and is one of oldest commercial buildings on King Street West. The Canadian Block was sold to the Breithaupt family in 1888. Housed a number of offices of key Berlin/Kitchener businesses on a long-term basis (including Shoemaker Drugs for 45 years from 1919-1964):
