DURHAM, June 30--One of the finest Christian gentlemen, Mr. Charles Cosens passed away at home of his daughter, Mr. Hugh McCrea, passed away at the grand old age of 91 years, 7 months. [Paragraph wording messed up in original paper] From early manhood, Mr. Cosens lived in Trowbridge, a few miles from Listowel. He kept store and post office for over 60 years. The last few years had been spent with his son, the Rev. T. W. Cosens, and his daughters, Mrs. Hugh McCrea and Mrs. Milo Knechtel, of Durham, and Mrs. Tifinn of Wheatly. His eldest daughter, Miss Emma Coens [sic], was for many years associated with him in his mercantile business and has been his constant companion till the end.
Mr. Cosens was always prominent in church work, from the of log school house and camp meetings. Before the days of the organ he fas precentor and later choir leader. He was trustee and recording stewart for many years and Sunday School superintendent for over half a century and all this in Trowbridge Methodist Church. His wife, who was formerly Miss Elizabeth Mann, of Elma township, predeceased him 18 years ago. The funeral was held Friday from the home of Mr. and Mrs. Hugh McCrea will by motor to Listowel, where interment will take place.
