    • JOHN MEWHINNEY

      The people of Glenallan as well as those of Elmira were shocked on Monday when they heard of the death of John Mewhinney, father of Mr. Herb Mewhinney, Elmira. The deceased had been helping Mr. Gordon Jackson with his farm work when on Monday, November 2nd, he contracted pneumonia and a week later he passed away. The subject of this sketch was born in Sheffield in 1862. Early in life he came to Peel township where later he was. married to Elizabeth Staley. They lived on a farm there until about three years ago, when they came to live with their son in Elmira. The deceased is survived by his sorrowing widow and three children, namely, Her bert of Elmira, Maud (Mrs. Robert Franklin) of Glenalan, and Maggie (Mrs. Hugh Cunningham) of the 4th of Peel. Two brothers and two sisters also survive. They are Wesley of Wallace township, Robert of Wellesley, Mrs. Alex. Adam and Mrs. Sam. Henry. The funeral took place On Wednesday afternoon from the home of Robert Franklin, Glenallan,. to the Elmira cemetery for burial. Rev. Newman of Glenallan officiated. The pallbearers were. W. C. Quickfall, John Armstrong. Herman Koelln, Harry Barkwell, Charles Ward and John Franklin.
