  The McEachren Heating and Ventilating Co. This is a young and enterprising firm doing business in the large, substantial brick building on West Main street, formerly occupied by Messrs. Cant Bros. This firm is engaged in the manufacture of heating and ventilating appliances. The heating appliance is a new and wonderful one indeed, and is well named The Little Wonder, and takes its name for the following reasons : 1st-It is the smallest hot water boiler in the market of equal heating capacity. 2nd.-It is the wonder of all who see it, that such a small boiler using such a small quanity of fuel, should heat such a large space, and get up the required, heat so quickly. 3rd. -All practical observers wonder at such an efficient, neat and durable hot water heating system being supplied at such a small cost. It is held by patents issued in 1885, and are stamped "Little Wonder, J. D. McEachren, Galt, Ont., Pat. 1895." The firm has been in existence since May 1896. The large experience and inventive genius of Mr. J. D. McEachren, and the young vim of Mr. W. D. Sheldon assure the success of the new firm beyond a peradventure. 1897 Jubilee Souvenir of Galt ______________________ WILLIAM D. SHELDON. Among the successful and growing business enterprises of the town of Galt is that of which William D. Sheldon is president. The enterprise is carried on under the name of Sheldon's Limited, and in the factory are manufactured heating, drying and ventilating plants. William D. Sheldon is an enterprising, energetic young business man, who has little more than passed the thirty-third milestone on life 's journey. He was born December 1, 1873, in Bucharest, Roumania, a son of Joseph William and Juliet (Dunster) Sheldon, natives of England. The father was a civil engineer and devoted much of his life to the construction and operation of street railway systems throughout Europe. He came to Ontario in 1884, the family locating at Galt, where he lived retired until his death in 1892. During the period of his active railroad building he constructed lines in the cities of Brussels, Madrid, Bremen and Bucharest and other European cities, and he was a director in the Tramways Union of London. William D. Sheldon was ten years of age when with his parents he settled at Galt. His education was largely acquired in the public and high schools of the city and when nineteen years of age he began providing for his own support as clerk in a hardware store. In 1896, with J. D. McEachran, he established the present industry the manufacture of heating, drying and ventilating plants. The business has increased rapidly, the trade now extending throughout the Dominion. In 1903 Mr. McEachran retired and was succeeded by Sidney Sheldon, brother of our subject, the business being conducted under the firm style of Sheldon & Sheldon until 1906, when they incorporated as Sheldon's Limited, with a capital stock of two hundred thousand dollars, of which one hundred and sixty thousand dollars is paid up. William D. Sheldon became president and Sidney Sheldon vice-president of the new corporation. They make a specialty of drying plants for manufacturing purposes and also ventilating plants for schools and churches. The product now goes to all parts of the Dominion and the business has enjoyed a rapid and healthful growth. William D. Sheldon was married in 1905 to Beatrice Smith, a daughter of James M. Smith of Galt, and they have one son, William D. Sheldon, Jr. A History of Ontario: its resources and development _______________ Galt Industrialist Dies After Illness GALT (CP) William D. Sheldon, 83, prominent Galt industrialist, died Wednesday night after a lengthy illness. Born in Romania, he came here when 11 years of age and for a time worked at the McEachern heating and ventilating plant, which his family later acquired.
