      The Congregation of the Resurrection announces the death of Father Clair Raymond Girodat, CR on Friday, November 18, 2016, at PeopleCare Hilltop Manor, Cambridge, Ontario. He was 80 years old, in his 62nd year of religious life and 54th year of ordained priesthood.

      Father Girodat is predeceased by his parents Walter and Paschala (nee Meyer) Girodat, his sister Frances Girodat and his brother Jerome. He is survived and lovingly remembered by his brother Robert (Janet) St. Cyr and his sister Bernice Lorentz, a number of nieces and nephews and many friends.

      Father Girodat professed his religious vows in the Congregation on September 8, 1955 and was ordained to the ministerial priesthood on June 1, 1963 at St. Peter's Seminary in London.

      He began his ministry as a Catholic educator at St. Jerome's High School, Kitchener, St. John's College, Brantford, Resurrection College, Waterloo, St. Mary's College, St. Mary's, Kentucky, and St. Jerome's College, Waterloo. Father Girodat also served as Rector-Superior of the Toronto House of Theology.

      Fr. Girodat held a variety of leadership roles within the Congregation including Assistant Provincial (1990-1993), novice master, house superior and was a member of a number of committees.

      In the Diocese of Hamilton Ontario, Fr. Clair served as Pastoral Assistant at St. Louis Parish, Waterloo, associate pastor of St. Aloysius Parish, Kitchener and performed chaplaincy work in Cambridge for WCCSB. Fr. Girodat was the Episcopal Vicar of Religious Orders for the Hamilton Diocese and acted as Chaplain of the Notre Dame Sisters in Waterdown. He led retreats for the Sisters of St. Joseph and the Providence Sisters Communities.

      A man of deep faith, hope and love Father Clair's life of faithful service touched the lives of his students, brother religious, parishioners, and family during his life of dedicated ministry. Fr. Girodat thoroughly enjoyed playing and coaching such sports as baseball, hockey, and basketball. In particular, he loved a good game of baseball and earned himself the nickname "Yogi" from his teammates.

      We wish to express our gratitude to the staff of PeopleCare Hilltop Manor for their commitment in caring for Fr. Clair over the past 4 years.

      Visitation of Father Girodat will take place at Resurrection College, St. Eugene's Chapel, 265 Westmount Road North, Waterloo on Tuesday, November 22nd from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. and 7:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. A Vigil Prayer Service will be held at 8:00 P.M. The Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at Resurrection College, St. Eugene's Chapel at 10:00 A.M. on November 23rd. Interment will take place at Mount Hope Cemetery, Kitchener. Reception to follow at Resurrection Manor.
