  Esther K. Hess, 95, of Goshen, died Tuesday afternoon, July 29, 2014, at I.U. Health Goshen Hospital. She was born February 10, 1919, in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada to Titus L. and Priscilla (Shantz) Kolb. On March 1, 1943 she married Charles V. Hess in Goshen. He died December 26, 1999. She is survived by three children, Janice (Jerry) Warstler of Sturgis, Michigan, Sandra K. Hess, and Jon C. Hess, both of Goshen; two grandchildren, Tonia Andrews and Todd Warstler and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, four sisters, Leda Kolb, Myrtle Liechty, Charlea Snyder and Gertrude Edgeworth, and a brother, J. Harvey Kolb. A 1940 graduate of Goshen College, she was a longtime, active member of Goshen City Church of the Brethren. She was a member of the Delphians and a charter member of the Goshen chapter of American Association of University Women. Mrs. Hess taught at Jefferson High School from 1942 to 1950. She was the first director of the Goshen YWCA, retiring in 1980 after 16 years. A Friday, September 26, 2014 11 a.m., memorial service will be conducted at Goshen City Church of the Brethren. Pastor Bev Weaver will officiate. A private graveside service will be held in Violett Cemetery, Goshen.
