  • Notes
    • High River and district is mourning over the loss of a real old-timer in the person of Edward Fiske. The late Mr. Fiske was 91 years of age and his death was quiet and peaceful. He was an old-timer in the province, having come west 40 years ago. He was born in Walkerton, Ont. in 1837, where he lived and farmed and was there married.

He was first a plasterer by trade and when arriving in Calgary was the contractor on the old N.W.M.P. barracks. He located in Gadsby where he took up homesteading. Forty grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren survive, besides his direct descendents as follows; Mrs. Alex Thompson and Mrs J.L. Sexsmith of High River, Robert Fisk of Banff, Alfred of California and George of Blackie.

His second wife died about two years ago. A son (Harry Colvin) born to his eldest daughter in Calgary was the second white child born in that city. The funeral was held from the home and over fifty automobiles of friends paid homage to a grand old man. The interment was made in the High River cemetery.
