- Leonard Lamka Dies of Injuries
Without regaining consciousness, Leonard Lamka, 148 Louise St., passed away yesterday afternoon at St. Mary's Hospital as a result of injuries sustained in motor crash Friday night.
The accident, which took place on the Bloomingdale-Maryhill road Friday night, and instantly claimed the life of William Gremm. 50, of Wellesley, resulted in a serious concussion, laceration of the brain and numerous scrape wounds to the chest, head and arms.
"Death was due to subdural hemorrhage due to laceration of the brain as a result of a motor accident," was the statement of Dr. Louis Lang, coroner, today.
Lamka and Gremm were rumble seat passengers in a car driven by Oliver Koebel of Sunnyside. It is believed the two men leaped or were hurled from the car as it left the road and crashed into a hydro pole after the driver was blinded by lights of an approaching car.
Crown Attorney W. P. Clement and Coroner Lang were meeting this afternoon to discuss whether or not an inquest would be held into cause of the tragedy.
Lamka, who was an employee of the Merchants Rubber factory, was born April 30, 1916, at Preston. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs William F. Lamka of Mannheim, who survive him. He was married to Rosetta Waechter, also surviving, at St. Agatha, Jan. 7; 1938. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Lamka is survived by a daughter, Verna; four brothers, Pte. Clifford Lamka, stationed on the east coast; Pte. Jack Lamka, serving in Italy: Edgar of Kitchener, and Donald at home; one sister, Miss Dorothy Lamka, of Kitchener.
Prayers will be said from the Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home at 8:30 Thursday, with mass at Sacred Heart Church at nine o'clock. Burial will be made at the Mount Hope Cemetery. The remains are resting at the funeral home.
