  Flash from the Past: Service station was at the hub of tiny Centreville Much has changed in the Centreville area of Kitchener in recent decades. When our mystery photo of July 3 was snapped - probably sometime about 1940 - the Shell service station that Walter Good operated at 2934 King St. E. was situated not in Kitchener but in Waterloo Township. The multi-lane Highway 8 we know today didn't exist. Nor did Fairway Road. And the Grand River Railway still carried passengers back and forth between Kitchener and Preston - passing just a hundred metres or so behind Good's garage. That's Walter standing on the right in the photo. And the man on the left is his brother-in-law, Howard Heimpel..... Well, today the site is a small retail plaza at the northwest corner of King Street East and Morgan Avenue. On the northeast corner is the Radisson Hotel Kitchener Waterloo.
