  February 3. Mrs. Sophia Doering, 81, had been organist for 66 years at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Erbsville. A lifelong resident of Erbsville and a member of a pioneer family, Mrs. Doering had played at 4000 services. Her family donated the land for St. Paul's the year before her birth. On her 81st birthday she recalled the replacement of the hand-pumped organ (1939) and of the oil lamp by electricity. Waterloo Historical Society Annual Volume 1960
