    • Fruit Company Head, Leo G. Longo Dies

      Leo Longo, 75, president of L. Longo and Co. Ltd., fruit wholesalers, died Monday at St. Mary's Hospital after a brief illness.

      The Longo name has been associated with the fruit and vegetable trade in the Twin Cities since 1896, when Mr. Longo's father and three uncles set up a wholesale fruit business that was later sold to Walker Brothers.

      Mr. Longo operated a retail food business at King and College Streets for 35 years, and managed the nearby Roma Theatre until it was sold. After the Second World War he formed L. Longo and Co., and remained president until his death.

      He was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Longo, and a native of Palermo, Italy. The family moved here from Toronto.

      Mr. Longo was a member of St. Aloysius RC Church. He lived at Edgehill Drive, Preston.

      Surviving are his wife, the former Mary Agnes Semplice who he married in Toronto in 1918; a son, Joseph of Preston; a daughter, Mrs. James (Catherine) Recchia of Kitchener; two sisters, Mrs. Joseph (Rose) Suppara of Toronto and Mrs. Matt (Josephine) Palumbo of Oakville, and five grandchilren. One brother, Samuel, predeceased him.

      The body is at the Schreiter Sandrock Funeral Home where the rosary will be recited at Thursday and prayers offered at 9:30 a.m. Friday, followed by requiem high mass a St. Aloysius Church at 10 clock, Interment will be in Woodland mausoleum.

      Donations to the K-W Rotary Children's Centre or the Canadian Cancer Society will be ac epted as expressions of sympathy.
